STEM EDUCATION: Oklahoma StellarXplorers Wrap Up Winning Season!

The Central Oklahoma Gerrity Chapter wrapped up a winning StellarXplorers season in May with two recognition events honoring the students, instructors, coaches and team leaders of Oklahoma's two national finalist teams. On May 13, the Francis Tuttle Technology Center Purple Ducks, who placed 2nd in the Nation, and the Edmond North Pathfinders to the Stars (AF JROTC OK-81st) met at the State Capitol with Governor Kevin Stitt. They also met with House and Senate members and were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments for the StellarXplorers VII competitive season.

An end of season celebration was also held on May 24 for the students and their families at OSU Discovery in the OKC Innovation District. Guest Speaker Craig Smith, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Space Industry Development Authority, spoke on Oklahoma's rich aerospace history and the Oklahoma SpacePort. The May 24th event was co-sponsored by the OKC Innovation District, a Gerrity chapter community partner.

"Oklahoma CareerTech is a phenomenal partner in the Gerrity Chapter's STEM Education Programs and really is the backbone of our StellarXplorers and CyberPatriot programs, allowing us a much greater reach," Gerrity Chapter VP for STEM Education Jeff James, said. "We now move into a busy summer with our Train the Trainer and student summer camps," as we prepare for the next competitive season."
